Architecture Now! vol.2　 ＜Philip Jodidio＞

またまた建築の話題。
3ヶ月ぐらい前に購入し、暇なときに読んでちょくちょく楽しんでます。
この１冊に、新進建築家から巨匠まで、多くの建築家の作品が詰まっている。写真も多くて大満足すぎる１冊で、感性の肥やしになってます。
日本からは
　・TADAO ANDO
　・SHIGERU BAN
　・TOYO ITO
　・REI KAWAKUBO
　・WARO KISHI
の５人が pick up されている。
川久保さんはコムデギャルソンのデザイナーとしてはあまりにも有名だが、建築にも関わっているらしい。本書内には、
"Although she is of course best known as a fashion designer, she has long had an interest in furniture and architecture."
と表現されている。

個人的にはこの５人の中では、岸和郎さんの建築（というか家）が大好きだ。
「深谷の家」とか「苦楽園の家」とか最高。

ところで、本書の表紙の家は誰の作品か知ってますか？
RICK JOY の "Tyler Residence" in Arizona です。
この RICK JOY はアリゾナ州で活躍している住宅中心の建築家で、もとはウィル・ブルーダーの事務所で働いていたらしい。そして面白いのが、もともとは音楽を専攻していたり、大工の経験があったりと建築設計一本槍ではないところ。
本書には
"RICK JOY's first working experience was not as an architect, but as a musician and a carpenter in Maine. He obtained his degree in architecture in 1990 and spent three years in the office of Will Bruder, working on the design team for the Phoenix Central Library."
とある。
様々なものに触れ、色々な経験を持つ人は感性豊かな人が多い。
人生、回り道に思えたときこそ、収穫は多いのかもしれない。

RICK JOY はこんなことも言っている。（本書より）
"Bold, modern architecture that is rooted in the context and culture of its place and that is developed in combination with the basics of proper solar orientation and site protection, and the responsible use of sensible materials and fine craftsmanship, will have the quality to withstand the tests of time."

何とも素朴でいい。
